Paddington House of Pancakes, The Gardens Midvalley KL

I like to eat pancakes. When I were small, my mom always prepared me with her Planta version of pancakes. I always eat it on its own. Now there were commercial restaurant which served pancakes. Although this restaurant is established in 2005, but it is still new to me. I always like a more traditional type of pancakes. So, I ordered plain pancake with lemon juice and sugar that came with a few blueberries. The second plate is mini pancakes with banana and ice-cream that came with maple syrup. Anyway, they score high on the food presentation.

Taste:7/10(Moderate. Their pancakes taste good but sometimes the combination is quite weird. I think lemon and pancakes don't mix well. Maybe I don't like sour stuff. You can choose from their more than 100 types of pancakes variety. I don't know that pancakes can be combined with ice-cream, ham or sausages before. I think pancakes can only eat with syrup, sugar, milk or jam. This give me some idea of preparing my own version of pancakes next time.
Price:3/10(Expensive. The price is expensive and it is a one time experience. You can get better value at home by making your own. Learn from here, make yourself later at your home comfort. Their pancakes priced between RM9 to RM25 per plate).

Food Safety - China Milk

As a food blogger, it is quite disheartened to hear that people will do anything to make big profit even harming infants. Adding melamine into milk to boast protein output so that they can sold the milk at higher price. The melamine chemical inside infant formula milk powder is indeed serious and people will lose trust on the China product in the future. This is not the first time China faced with sub-standard product. In the past, there are formula milk without any trace of nutrient and toy produced contain high lead level. The Sanlu company is believed to have known the problem eight months ago but only take action after death occurs & thousands babies sick. They even hide the problem because of the Olympic games!

What actually blog my mind is that they (Sanlu company) blamed the supplier and the milk farmers. I think they should check and conduct testing on their supplies before processing it into milk powder or other products. If test showed positive, then they would have reject the supply anyway. In this case, they should admit that they also involved in this problem and take full responsibilities for it.

What makes me annoying is that millions litres of milk have to be wasted! Imagine if the milk is edible, it is able to feed the hunger of Africa.

p/s: In the local scene, our food is not 100% safe either. My colleague actually saw a trader in pasar tani in Jalan Tengah, KL, fried 'kuih' such as 'cucur udang' with plastic bag! Fried together with plastic bag not only make them easier (don't need to take out the item one by one) but also maintain the 'kuih' crispiness for longer period.

Reading, Music & Product

Five months has passed since I work in KL. I think there are a few positive changes that I can see on myself.
First, I notice that I am able to read more now when compared when I work near my home. I won't be able to sleep well in the bus and I feel that the time would go to waste if I do nothing. So, I picked up the habit of reading. Previously, I only manage to finish around two magazines and a book a month but now the number would increase to five magazine & three books. The working place in Bukit Bintang also near to Times Pavilion which have quite a large collection of new books. Finally, I found my Tun Sri Lanang library replacement. Times is an interesting place to go after lunch.
Second, I hardly listened to any radio station before this. Now, Mix FM is my favorite station. Now at least I can answer some entertainment questions thrown to me. I was a total geek on the music industry before this.
Third, product. Hmmm... what is actually I mean by this... Get to know latest product around and feel it. Know about the uniqueness of a product.

Signature Food Court @ Suria KLCC, KL

Signature Food Court is located at the second floor (above KFC & Burger King) of the Malaysia most popular tourist destination, Suria KLCC. I went there with my colleague to have a lunch over there. It takes us around 20 minutes for us to walk from Wisma Genting to the food court. However, it is confortable to walk there as nearly 80 percent of the path is covered and 50 percent is air conditioned. The secret is to pass thru Crowne Hotel car park, UOA building, KL convention centre and KLCC underground tunnel in order to get there. After lunch, I still have some time to spare to window shopping around.

Taste:7/10(Moderate. The meehoon is quite spicy to my tasting however my northern colleague said it is not spicy enough. The briyani rice is just normal and it is just like the vegetarian banana leaf rice).
Price:5/10(Near expensive. Most of the dishes here are priced around RM9-RM15. The price there is net price and they don't charge goverenment tax or service tax. However, I manage to find my nasi briyani with dessert at RM6. Over all the food here is fine but the price is on higher end).

Shanghai 10 @ Sungei Wang Plaza, KL

This restaurant is quite hidden inside Sungei Wang and it is quite diffcult to find for first timer to Sungei Wang. To make it simple, it is located on third floor near Post office (green zone). Their food is actually on par with other Shanghainese restaurant and cheaper but surprisingly there is not many patrons. Maybe it is due to its location. Among the menu here are steamed glutinous rice - loh mai kai, jelly fish, variety types of la mien, fried rice, stir fried radish cake & egg tarts. However the environment here is a bit dark and slightly noisy as beside this restaurant is a roller skate arcade.

Taste:7/10(Moderate. Their double boiled soup pau is good. Special pau with soup inside. Their la mien-hand made mee is moderate and the broth is clear. The dumpling inside the la mien broth is good).
Price:6/10(Moderate. Their price is cheaper than other Shanghainese restaurant such as Dragon-i or Crystal Jade. Average each person need to fork out around RM15 including tax to have a main dish, dessert, pau & drink).

Rabbit Cafe @ Wisma Cosway, KL

Rabbit cafe which is located on first floor in Wisma Cosway is opened for around three months now. They offer attractive and simple set lunches. Each month, they have 16 set lunches to choose from. They offered many types of food in their menu which ranges from chinese food, western food, japanese food & malay food. This place is usually packed during lunch time. Their set lunch consist of the main course, assam vege/fruit rojak/fruit and sweet jasmine green tea/coffee. Among the September 2008 menu are sweet & sour fish rice, claypot ginger wine chicken mee suah, korean kimchi ramen, fried spaghetti and Hakka Lei Cha.

Taste:7/10(Great food selection. Some are good and some are just so-so. I do recommend their kam heong chicken rice, black pepper udon mee, claypot hakka sweet vinegar pork rice and fried rice).
Price:7/10(Moderate. The set lunch with main course, fruit and drink cost you RM10.50 including tax. If you opt to only have the main course, it will cost you RM9.40).

IKEA Biscuits

I never tried IKEA biscuit before until my colleague offered me resberry flavoured biscuit. The IKEA dry food counter is actually facing the cashier counter. You should be able to see it when you check out. During that week, I brought myself a few types of Sweden made biscuits to try out and the outcome as below:

Taste:7/10(I would rank Bellerina higher than other in terms of taste. Bellerina have a rich hazelnut flavoured cream. Try Leksands if you like cream crackers and you like fibre stuff. Try to dip Leksands in milk Milo or milk coffee. IKEA does sell a large piece of Leksands in round shape. The one in the photo below is the cut version of Leksands in small pack. Try Pepparkakor is you like strong taste)
Price:6/10(Moderate.Each pack is fixed at RM4.90 and it is imported)


Bellarina is cookies with hazelnut filling, Leksands is high fibre crackers made from rum (a kind of wheat that is used to make whiskey) and Pepparkakor is ginger & cinnamon biscuits.
