Nowadays, I find that it is hard to get good tasting traditional made nian kao. Traditional nian kao wrap using banana leaf which made it taste good. But for what I see now (since many years ago), many manufacturer start using plastic bag to wrap the nian kao. I found it less appealing & afraid that the nian kao probably polluted by plastic toxic. Some even wrap the whole nian kao in a plastic container which have gold bar or cartoon character shape. Who knows if they heat the nian kao in the container itself!
