Tokyo to Los Angeles with great amenities on All Nippon Airways (ANA) economy class

Last week I took a flight by All Nippon Airways(ANA) from Tokyo to Los Angeles. Surprisingly the flight service, food and seat arrangement were great. I am quite impress with the amount of hot food that they served for economy class such as miso soup, green tea and the usual coffee/tea. In the flight, they also have a very good Kabosu cocktail. Its really refreshing and thirst quenching which is suitable for dry environment inside aircraft especially on a long journey flight. Another plus point of the flight is hot towel provided twice! The hot towel is very helpful on long haul flight in order to feel refreshed. The competition among the full service airlines are very stiff now as pricing competition and the need to differentiate the product in order to attract customer to book the airlines. The entry of many middle east airlines also set the bar higher with lower fares, new aircraft and better service. ANA also have service to enable passenger to pass thru immigration faster for those who have tight connecting flights.

Dinner meal


Flavoured rice crackers. Quite good flavoured rice crackers. The Aromatic Kabosu cocktail is impressive. Aromatic Kabosu is a cloudy, mildly sour lime juice from Oita Prefecture, Kyushu, in the south of Japan. It's very thirst quenching which is perfect for drinking in the dry environment of an airplane. Kabosu is the name of the lime taste so great when paired with honey sweetness to perfection.

Rubberise headphone. Good sound and prevent you from hearing aircraft noise.

Delicious and impressive meal by ANA. I like the idea that they provide one bottle of water. This lessen the cabin crew burden of providing water to the passengers. Its quite trouble some for the crew to pass the water especially before breakfast during the long haul flight.

Chicken thigh and chicken quenelle over steamed rice with vegetables. The rice is soft and taste very good.

Hot miso soup provided. Impressive with the amount of hot meal they provide.

Metal utensil. Nowadays most airlines already provide plastic utensil.

Japanese tofu.

Good soba noodles with wasabi and seaweed.

Haagen Dazs ice cream as dessert.

Yakult cultured drink.

Kurobe mineral water.

Hot green tea.

Chivas soda offered for free on economy class.

Breakfast set for flight Tokyo Narita to Los Angeles airport. Sockeye salmon flakes and various ingredients over steamed rice.

Seat configuration were good with 2, 2, 2 & 3. There are 4 seats in the middle which have a gap in between which makes it 2 X 2 seats.

Kuala Lumpur to Los Angeles on Economy Class Malaysia Airlines

Travelling to Los Angeles, United States via Malaysia Airlines flight MH92. This flight comes with two main meals and one light brunch.

Rating:8/10(Good. Delicious butter rice and good soba noodles. My favourite).


Fish with noodles. Since this flight stop at Narita airport for 1.5 hours, it comes with Japanese soba noodles as well.

Premium Ice-cream but its too hard. Almost all passengers don't take it. The ice-cream is harden like stone!

Night brunch. Tuna sandwich.

The curry chicken with the butter rice is really good.

This main meal is really good. Butter rice with curry chicken with almond flakes and dried tomatoes as toppings.

Pig & Whistle @ Hollywood, Los Angeles

Pig & Whistle located at a strategic location on Hollywood boulevard. I think this is the only outlet serving American style food on the street. The food is not bad and it has a very beautiful ceiling. Initially I thought this outlet will serve only pork dishes but on the menu, it look like just a normal American style menu.

Taste:7/10(Moderate. The shepherd pie is not bad and tasty but its just normal mixture of potato and meat. This meal however is very filling. The burger is just normal as well).
Price:4/10(Expensive. The pig & whistle burger cost USD10 while the shepherds pie at USD15.00. I ordered a glass of white zinfandel wine cost USD8.00. I am expecting something sweet on the wine but its not sweet enough. The gratuity is added to the bill at USD6.00. The total bill plus tax for all the meal cost USD41.90).

The Getty Center @ Los Angeles

The $1.3 billion centre, which opened on December 16, 1997, is well known for its architecture, gardens, and views overlooking Los Angeles. A great museum that has a impressive collection by Van Gogh, Monet and Cezanne, along with the architectural triumph of its six buildings and gardens. The impressive part is that you need to take cable pulled tram up to the hill where the museum is located. You can get one of the best view of Los Angeles from here. The central garden is also impressive with its unique design garden.

This museum is a bit far from Downtown and Hollywood. Make sure you set aside at least 90 minutes of travelling time for one way via public transport. Its around 30-40km and the transport system in LA is not that good and there is a lot of stops/traffic lights in between.

Langer's Pastrami @ Los Angeles

My trip to Los Angeles this year is to try out their best food. One of them is Langer's Pastrami located near MacArthur Park lake. I have read about this place after I have tried and love the New York version of Katz Delicatessen. From several reviews that I read, this Langer's Pastarami is claimed to have the best pastrami in the world! Their best pastrami is menu number 19 which is pastrami swiss coleslaw with russian dressing. It contains cheese as well. But for me, I like to taste plain pastrami in order to get the original taste out of it.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. The pastrami is tender, the rye bread is fresh, service is good and taste is good. The hot chocolate is well done).
Price:5/10(Near expensive. The price is high for sandwich. USD13.50 for hot pastrami sandwich and USD14.35 for pastrami with swiss cheese with Russian dressing sandwich.
