Good lunch at Mama's on Washington Square @ San Francisco, USA

Mama's on Washington Square is a family owned cafe serving good breakfast located on North Beach since 50 years ago. They continue the tradition of serving fluffy omelettes, tasty homemade jam and freshly baked breads. A search on Internet will reveal how popular this small restaurant in having among the best breakfast in San Francisco. We arrived here at 11.30am and hoping to wait for just 1 hours to have lunch. But the line move slower than we thought and looks like 2 hours is a standard waiting time to have a meal here.

As soon as we reached our turn to enter the cafe, we need to queue again for food order. After order, you take a seat and wait for the food to be served. But during my day, the waiter ask us to have a seat first then order from our table. I think they realised that we have standing very long outside. I would like to emphasis you should skip meal at this cafe if you don't have enough time or don't have patient. After you get seated, you will feel that the table is so small and cramped. But the cafe interior does give you homely feeling. As a tips, do come here early to queue for breakfast even before the cafe opens in order to have shorter waiting time. However, please bring some snack along so that you won't get that hungry while waiting. Do take note that this establishment only accepts cash.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. The 3 dishes ordered were great with the main highlight on Monte Cristo. The bread were well dipped and prepared with thick & rich taste. The homemade jam were really good and can taste the natural sweetness in it. French toast sampler being the cranberry-orange brings out the best taste among the three French toast samples. As for Dungeness crab omelette, you can taste the freshness of the crab used and mixed well with avocado, cheese and tomato).
Price:5/10(Near expensive. Monte Cristo at USD11.95, Dungeness crab omelette at USD18.00 & French toast sampler at USD12.00. Each portion is huge).

Usual long queue at the Mama's on Washington Square. People willing to queue for 1-2 hours for breakfast and lunch.

Monte Cristo which is roasted turkey breast, honey baked ham, cheddar and Gruyere cheese battered in egg and grilled, served with homemade jam. Thick and rich taste.

Dungeness crab omelette with avocado, tomato and Havarti cheese. Delicately folded inside the omelet was a generous mixture of dungeness crab meat, avocado, caramelized potatoes and English muffin which taste really good.

Wow, the amount of crab meat in the omelet with tomato and avocado.

French toast sampler. It comes with a lot of fruits topping and maple syrup. Do try this one as it comes with 3 different varieties - banana nut, cranberry orange walnut and Swedish cinnamon French toast.

Fresh strawberry, banana and blueberries on French toast sampler.

Finally got to seat on the table. Their homemade jam is good.

The ingredient for their omelettes.

Many types of delicious bread here.

Small and cramp cafe.
