Decent Japanese sushi at Ichiro Sushi Bar @ Eat Paradise, One Utama, Petaling Jaya

Ichiro sushi bar is a decent Japanese restaurant located at upper floor of Isetan in One Utama. Usually food in shopping malls don't serve great food but Ichiro is different from the rest. The food here is fresh and prepared by Japanese chef which is rare sight in Japanese restaurant nowadays. Another good thing about Ichiro is sometimes they serve seasonal items and some of the fishes are not found in the mainstream Japanese Restaurants. So do check them out from time to time on their facebook page (link below). Ordering for your meal is simple and fast via ipad.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. Sushi are fresh and they have fishes which are not found in other Japanese restaurant. Tried sanma & mackerel which hard to find elsewhere. Both were good. Sorbet dessert taste good and refreshing as well. Do also check out their alcoholic drink such as Umeshu and Aragoshi momo which taste great - no picture as my phone out of battery :-( ).
Price:3/10(Expensive. If you choose to have their premium sushi which can't get somewhere else in any Japanese restaurant, then the price is expensive. Their kinmedai fish sushi cost MYR30.00 for two pieces and toro for MYR60.00 for two. The price is more reasonable if you come here during lunch time to have their sashimi rice bowl which is just cost around MYR25.00. Yuzu sorbet at MYR7.00 and Japanese sweet alcoholic drink at MYR18.00 a glass).

Huge fish piece on top of rice. The sushi portion considered as standard size as in Japan. Fresh as well.

Ikura and salmon belly sushi were fresh and fish roe bursting in my mouth. Grilled fish head salmon was slight over cooked and have burned parts. However, the fish head taste were still good).

Fresh sashimi at Yamada Japanese Restaurant @ Subang Jaya

Visited this restaurant this week for dinner and find out that their sashimi rice set were quite fresh and delicious. The interior of the restaurant is very Japanese with wooden wall and ambient lightning. I like the place because it's cosy, and food is authentic. It's run by an old Japanese chef who prepares the sashimi himself. The restaurant also well stocked with sake and Japanese beer and Choya. The pricing in this restaurant is higher than the other Japanese restaurant within the same row but you get the quality of what you are paying for. The portion is quite huge as well.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. I do recommend to have their sashimi and raw stuff here as they are fresh and tasty. The standard is almost similar that you dine in Japan with nice cosy Japanese style environment. The sashimi slice were quite large and thick. Preferable to come on Tuesday and Friday as the items will be very fresh on that day).
Price:3/10(Expensive. The price here is slightly more expensive with other Japanese restaurant within the same row of shops. Dinner set starts at MYR60.00 here. But for the price that you pay, you get a better quality food item here. I took their sashimi and unagi dinner set which cost MYR85.00 exclude GST. The good things is they don't charge service charge).

Tasty uni ikura don from Sushi Zanmai @ Tsukiji Market, Tokyo

Tsukiji market in Tokyo is a one stop centre where you can find the best and freshest raw seafood. One of the attraction dish here is uni ikura don which combined two best melt in your mouth delicacy which is sea urchin and fish roe (red caviar) on top of cooked rice. The firm globes of salty salmon roe complement well with the rich and softness of sea urchin. There are many variation of rice bowl available in the market but I found uni ikura don offers the best flavour.

Taste:10/10(Excellent. Fresh fish roe and melt in your mouth sea urchin. Adequate flavour on the rice with slight sourness of vinegar and the sea urchin taste sweet).
Price:3/10(Expensive. The rice bowl priced at 2,800 Yen).

Freshest sushi at Daiwa Sushi @ Tsukiji Market, Tokyo

Daiwa sushi is one of the famous sushi shop serving freshest sushi outside the Tsukiji fish market. Daiwa sushi always rank second behind sushi Dai in term of sushi quality in any review that you can find online. I decided to try out Daiwa sushi to know the difference of sushi taste compared to other sushi restaurant within Tokyo. They have no line when I arrived around 11.00am compared to Sushi Dai which still have long queue. The sushi prepared were so fresh and the chef put the correct amount of wasabi and soy sauce on the sushi. The taste were perfect. I am fortunate to have the old chef sushi master to prepare my meal. The sushi prepared were well balanced in term of fish thickness, rice quantity, soy sauce and wasabi. Sea urchin here were surprisingly sweet unlike some which are bitter. The seat inside the restaurant were extremely cramped and do prepared for it.

Taste:10/10(Excellent. The sushi were very fresh and the taste is different when compared to normal sushi restaurant. The secret is probably the sushi were made on the spot and the correct amount of wasabi and soy sauce were added by sushi chef. This way you can ensure that the correct amount of wasabi and soy sauce were used. I noticed that the squid sushi were extremely buttery and creamy taste unlike some other places which are rubbery).
Price:2/10(Expensive. The restaurant does not accept credit cards and make sure you have enough cash. Their omakase set - chef choice price at 3,500 Yen. Their sushi price is higher than their competitor sushi Dai their omakase only have 10 pieces of sushi compared to sushi Dai 12 pieces).

Busy restaurants outside Tsukiji market.

Get a seat in Daiwa sushi restaurant. I ordered the 3,500 Yen omakase sushi set.

Omakase sushi set start with 3 pieces of premium sushi.

Wagyu beef dinner at Rakuzen @ Subang Jaya

Again, dining in Rakuzen Japanese restaurant in Subang Jaya. The food here is good and never fail me on many visits. Their food quality is good and fresh. Located at SS15 Subang Jaya is indeed very competitive as the whole row of shops are all Japanese restaurant. The Subang Jaya branch is always busy and you need to go early or call to make a reservation especially during weekend. Rakuzen also have a variety of good deal lunch and dinner sets which consist of main course, miso soup, fruits and chawan mushi.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. Fresh and tasty. The wagyu beef on hot stone is good and able to taste the tenderness and the fatty part of the beef. The oysters were fresh and I give thumb up for the freshness of the Japanese seafood here. Teriyaki beef rice were good as well).
Price:4/10(Expensive. This time I ordered something more premium and the price is more expensive. Small portion of wagyu beef on hot stone at MYR65.00. The portion is only 60 gram. Just nice to have glapse of wagyu beef taste. The sashimi don set is economical at MYR26.00. Yakinikujyu teriyaki beef rice at MYR26.00. Kaki houba or oysters at MYR22.00).

My favourite dish when visiting Rakuzen Japanese restaurant. Sake oyako don. It comes with slices of salmon and fish roe. I like this dish as it contains a fair amount of salmon fish roe.

Premium sushi at Sushi Zanmai @ Tsukiji Market, Tokyo

Reached this restaurant at around 11.30am on a saturday and queue were quite long outside this 3 storey high restaurant. Although the line is long, but we are able to get into the restaurant in about 30 minutes time. Initially target to try Sushi Dai which is located within the Tsukiji compound. But have to forget about it since the line was horribly long. I have tried several Sushi Zanmai outlets around Japan and so far it haven't fail me. I was satisfied with the quality and freshness of the food served without any question. As soon we were seated, we ordered 3 sets of premium sushi. Two sets of assorted premium sushi while one set of premium toro (fatty cut of fish usually tuna/bluefin). The best part about Sushi Zanmai outlet is they open 24 hours, 365 days a year. They are indeed work very hard and have many outlets around Japan with great quality.

Taste:9/10(Delicious. There sushi were fresh and toro were great).
Price:5/10(Near expensive. With the weakening Yen, this meal becomes more affordable. Price for each premium sushi set at 3,240 Yen including 8% consumption tax).

Set of premium sushi and premium toro. From the toro set, you get all the fattiness cut of each level from normal fatty level until extra fatty tuna belly cut. As the intensity of the fat increase, the colour will be lighter and become white for the most fatty tuna piece. The conger eel is great as well with lightly marinated with sweet sauce.

Extra fatty tuna and broiled fatty tuna. Excellent.

Medium fatty tuna.

Raw ebi prawn, normal tuna, amberjack, squid, tamago and conger eel sushi.

Conger eel, ark shell and amberjack.

Sea urchin, ikura, chive buds and ootoro (fatty tuna).

Do make sure you request for ground floor or first floor if you would like to view chef in action.
